Books2Africa

We are pleased to say that we are now supporting Books2Africa.

Books2Africa is a UK charity that accepts many types of books which it then processes and deliver to students and teachers across Africa.  Their ‘readcycling’ model is designed to extend the life of educational materials by preventing perfectly usable materials such as books from going to recycling/landfill sites in the UK.  This fits perfectly with our own ethos of  finding ‘New Life for Old Books’

We’ve signed up as a monthly sponsor and a few days ago we delivered our first donation of nearly 200kg of books to their collection point near Cambridge.

Books2Africa scans and catalogues all the books at its  Processing Centre in Kent and the majority are allocated to one of several subject categories and palletised together with similar books from other donors ready for shipping to projects in Africa.  Since items are entered into their database  and some are stickered with our reference number,  in due course we will receive a picture of the recipient when the books are delivered .

We plan on now making regular shipments.  The range of books that Books2Africa accepts is extensive and includes nursery, primary, secondary and university textbooks; dictionaries, encyclopaedias and reference books; novels, hobbies and leisure books, as well as bibles, hymnals and religious books.  Books must be in English, French or an African language and not damaged.  So a proportion of the books which you donate to us may well find their way to a new life in Africa.
