Book of the Week: Restless Legs - A German Girl’s Story by Lilo Linke 1935

A recent bookfind is this very scarce book.

Restless Flags: A German Girl’s Story written by Lili Linke in 1935 is an autobiographical account of a middle-class German girl whose memories begin in August 1914, become more heartbreaking during the war and early post-war years, she then experiences  the optimism of the Weimar Republic before crashing to disillusionment with the onslaught of Nazi rule.

Linke joined the Social Democrat Party in 1932 and during a trip to England in 1932 met met the English writer Storm Jameson.  Two years later, when the Nazi regime came to power in Germany, she fled to England at Jameson's invitation.  The book is dedicated to Jameson.

This is the paperback edition published in the UK by Constable and Co in 1935.  This book is very well worn with rubbing to the edges and a stain to the rear cover.  There is a significant lean to the spine.  Nevertheless this is a very rare edition with the wrappers and endpapers designed  by Willi Soukop.
